Porcelain (especially the beautiful Viennese Augarten porcelain) is the ceramist’s preferred medium. The moulded figures are infused with individual life in the artist’s hands, with fragments of clothing, tattoos, expression lines or touches of colour being added here and there, thus giving them the status of unique pieces. Other mediums such as aluminium, bronze or marble also inspire Gundi Dietz’s insatiable creativity, who moves with ease from miniature to monumental works, without ever losing her expressive force.
Over the course of her career, Gundi Dietz has increasingly stripped her figures of any superfluous or anecdotal artifice in order to concentrate on their vital, fundamental energy. And what if, in all their apparent simplicity, Gundi Dietz’s sculptures encapsulated the essence of humanity?
This exhibition has been organised in collaboration with the Kunstforum Solothurn.
