Most of our acquisitions come from what is called the legal deposit, the requirement by law that a person or group submit copies of their publications to a repository, in this case the Bibliothèque. Agreements have also been reached with producers and distributors of posters. The collection also enjoys a special agreement with the Société générale d’affichage (SGA), which normally provides a copy of each of the posters it puts up on the city’s walls. Numerous gifts and donations, too, have enriched the collection (from artist’s and print studios as well as private collections). And to complete the older, more historical part of the collection, the Bibliothèque makes specific targeted purchases. Some 2,000 new posters are added to the collection each year. Finally, books dealing with the different subjects that are treated in posters can also be consulted or borrowed at the Bibliothèque.
